Direct isolation of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis from fresh water in Japan
Article Abstract:
Direct potassium hydroxide (KOH) treatment of precipitates from centrifuged freshwater samples was found to be an easy and effective means of recovering Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. About 33.3% of the water samples tested were positive for Y. pseudotuberculosis. Recovery of the bacteria from the positive water samples was higher when modified MacConkey agar was used for plating instead of irgasan-novobiocin agar.

Enhancement of in vitro growth of pathogenic bacteria by norepinephrine: Importance of inoculum density and role of transferrin
Article Abstract:
The effects of a small inoculum was examined on the norepinephrine-induced growth of species which were reported to be unaffected by norepinephrine. Results of the examination indicated that a reduced inoculum density was essential to observe the effects induced by norepinephrine.

Rapid separation and concentration of food-borne pathogens in food samples prior to quantification by viable-cell counting and real-time PCR
Article Abstract:
The food-borne pathogens can be rapidly separated by subjecting the food homogenate to density gradient centrifugation. A combination of centrifugation and viable cell count is used to detect the presence of pathogens in the food even at very low concentrations.
