Disruption of N-acyl homoserine lactone-mediated cell signaling and iron acquisition in epiphytic bacteria by leaf surface compounds
Article Abstract:
Many plant species are examined to determine their production of leaf surface compounds that might interact with the N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL)-mediated cell signaling systems. The stimulation of siderophore production and the growth inhibition by plant extracts and purified tannins are both reversed by addition of ferric chloride to culture media, which has indicated that iron is made unavailable by the compounds released onto the leaf surface.

Polydextrose, lactitol, and fructo-oligosaccharide fermentation by colonic bacteria in a three-stage continuous culture system
Article Abstract:
The potential prebiotic effects of polydextrose, lactitol monohydrate and fructo-oligosaccharide (FOS), commonly used components in the food industry, and the short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) produced during the fermentation were investigated. A decrease in difidobacteria throughout the model of the human colon was effected in the percent-G+C profiles.
