Distribution, frequency and diversity of Bacillus thuringiensis in an animalfeed mill
Article Abstract:
The ecology of Bacillus thuringiensis was studied by evaluating its distribution, frequency and diversity in an animal feed mill. The organism was isolated from residue samples and was classified according to its crystal morphology and toxicity to four insect species. Such classification yielded 36 subgroups of B. thuringiensis. This diversity may be due to new strains brought by the entry ofplant materials into the mill. Also, plasmid transfer may have created new subgroups. These results, when combined with those obtained from other ecosystems, will help define ecology of B. thuringiensis.

Diversity, persistence, and virulence of Aeromonas strains isolated from drinking water distribution systems in Sweden
Article Abstract:
The diversity, persistence and virulence of Aeromonas strains isolated from drinking water distribution systems in Sweden were examined to obtain related information on the Aeromonas populations in surface water. The water distribution systems were investigated by sampling the raw water at various sites in the system on four different ocassions. Results reveal raw water had certain amounts of Aeromonas populations. These populations, on the other hand, is remarkably stable within the water distribution areas studied.

Molecular microbial diversity of an anaerobic digestor as determined by small-subunit rDNA sequence analysis
Article Abstract:
The molecular microbial diversity of an anaerobic digestor as shown by a small-subunit recombinant DNA sequence analysis was examined to provide an analysis of the microbial species diversity present in the biofilm of a fluidized-bed anaerobic digestor. Results reveal that a mesophilic, hospitable and common ecosystem can be characterized by a high biodiversity. However, a large number of bacterial operational taxonomic units are not closely related to any other related sequences.
