Distribution, relative abundance, and habitat relationships of landbirds in the Vava'u Group, Kingdom of Tonga

Article Abstract:

Comparative population sizes and habitat preferences of the 12 indigenous, resident species of landbirds that still exist in the Vava'u Group, Kingdom of Tonga were investigated. Point counts were performed along transects on 14 of the islands and each count location was placed into each of five habitat categories. Findings indicated that deforestation and other human activities have a stronger effect on species diversity and relative population sizes of landbirds on islands in Vava'u compared to island area, elevation or isolation.

Effects of small forest openings on the breeding bird community in a Vermont hardwood forest

Article Abstract:

Effect of small openings on the forest-interior bird community of an unfragmented Northern hardwood forest varies as the structure changes. Analysis of similarity of species composition, species richness and abundance of individual species and ecologically-related groups of species revealed that the presence of small openings increased community diversity of Neotropical birds.
