Diverse responses to UV-B radiation and repair mechanisms of bacteria isolated from high-altitude aquatic environments
Article Abstract:
Significant differences were observed in survival of bacteria isolated from Laguna Azul and Laguna Pozuelos after UV-B irradiation and the recovery strategies through dark and light repair were different in all strains. Findings revealed that the UV-B responses and recovery abilities of the different bacteria were uniform with the irradiation levels in their native environment.

Inactivation of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in effluent seawater by alternating-current treatment
Article Abstract:
The application of alternating low-amperage electric treatment to effluent seawater is investigated for the large-scale disinfection of seawater. Vibrio parahaemolyticus, the cause of gastroenteritis in humans, is inactivated by alternating low-amperage electricity.

Inactivation of bacteria in seawater by low-amperage electric current
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that bacteria and Vibrio parahaemolyticus in seawater are totally inactivated in 100 milliseconds by 0.5-amperes, 12-volts direct current. Electron microscopic analysis indicate substantial structural damage to cells.
