ECM degrading proteases and tissue remodelling in the mammary gland
Article Abstract:
The extracellular proteases involved in the tissue remodelling processes that occur in the breast during pubertal mammary development and the mammary development and the mammary cycle of pregnancy, lactation and weaning are reviewed. The findings on the exciting new functions of matrix-degrading proteases are presented with main emphasis on development and weaning, termed mammary gland involution, when the majority of remodelling occurs.

A study demonstrates that vasopressin and oxytocin modulate the excitatory inputs into the central nucleus of the amygdala in opposite manners. The results thus elucidate the mechanisms through which these neuropeptides might control the expression of fear.
