Effect of batch-process solar disinfection on survival of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in drinking water
Article Abstract:
The effect of batch-process solar disinfection (SODIS) of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in water is investigated and viability reduction after SODIS is tested by fluorogenic dyes and excystation techniques, while oocyst infectivity is determined in neonatal Swiss CD-1 suckling mice. The results have shown that SODIS exposures of 6 and 12 h reduced oocyst infectivity from 100% to 7.5% and 0%, respectively.

Efficacy of two peroxygen-based disinfectants for inactivation of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts
Article Abstract:
Two commercial peroxygen-based disinfectants containing hydrogen peroxide plus either peraceti acid (Ox-Virin) or silver nitrate (Ox-Agua) are tested for their ability to inactivate Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts. Oocysts are obtained from naturally infected goat kids and exposed to concentrations of 2, 5, and 10% Ox-Virin or 1, 3, and 5% Ox-Agua for 30, 60, and 120 min.

Maximizing recovery and detection of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts from spiked eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica) tissue samples
Article Abstract:
The recovery efficiency different oyster processing methods are determined and an optimal method is described for the detection of commercial oysters naturally contaminated with Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts. The results will help in determining the best way to quantify Cryptosporidium levels in native oysters.
