Effect of phenylurea herbicides on soil microbial communities estimated by analysis of 16S rRNA gene fingerprints and community-level physiological profiles
Article Abstract:
The effects of the phenylurea herbicides diuron, linuron and chlorotoluron on soil microbial communities that have been treated regularly with these herbicides for more than 10 years have been studied. Polymerase chain reaction was used in amplifying the 16S rDNA genes, which were then subjected to denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. BIOLOG GN microplates were used in determining the substrate utilization patterns of the microbial communities. Results showed that the microbial community structures between treated and untreated soils are different. There was also a reduction in the bacterial diversity of the treated soils.

Effects of bacteria on Artemia franciscana cultured in different gnotobiotic environments
Article Abstract:
Dead or live bacteria that have any beneficial effect towards Artemia franciscana was investigated. The results suggested that the tested microorganisms in the gnotobiotic environment can be catalogued in different classes probionts, pathogens and neutral microorganisms hence, many microorganisms can be considered as potential sources of nutrients for Artemia improving its general condition.

Probiotic bacteria as biologicl control agents in aquaculture
Article Abstract:
Alternative strategies for the use of detrimental antimicrobials in disease control in aquaculturesare presented. Probiotic organisms are being increasingly used as biological control agents for acquaculture of crustacea, mollusks, fish, and shrimps. Modes of action, criteria for selection, and mass production of the probiotic bacteria are discussed.
