Effects on Bacillus subtilis of conditional expression of the accBC operon encoding subunits of acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase, the first enzyme of fatty acid synthesis
Article Abstract:
The first enzyme of fatty acid synthesis is acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC). Since fatty acids are primarily phospholipid precursors in bacteria, the activity of ACC must be closely associated with cell growth and division. Genetic engineering techniques are used to put the ACC operon designated as accBC under the control of the promoter Pspac which is inducible with IPTG to elucidate the effects of conditional expression of ACC on growth and differentiation.

Specificity of the interaction of RocR with the rocG-rocA intergenic region in Bacillus subtilis
Article Abstract:
Results point out that the regulator protein RocR specifically binds to the intergenic region between rocG and the rocABC operon, while DNaseI footprinting analyses show that RocR binds to two sites resembling upstream activating sequence 1 and 2. Electron microscopic analysis of the rocG-rocA intergenic region is presented.

The Bacillus subtilis cysP gene encodes a novel sulphate permease related to the inorganic phosphate transporter (pit) family
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that cysP gene product belongs to the inorganic phosphate transporter family as revealed by the sequence similarities. Data further indicate that archaeal transporters share the domain organization with cysP gene product.
