Enhanced utilization of phosphonate and phosphite by Klebsiella aerogenes
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine whether Klebsiella aerogenes ATCC 9621 could be engineered to enhance the utilization of phosphonates and phosphites as sole sources of phosphorus by increasing the dosage of the phn genes. Results suggested that inorganic phosphate, generated from phosphonates and phosphites, might limit further utilization of these P compounds. To enhance conversion of the resulting inorganic phosphate to polyphosphate, the K. aerogenes ppk gene was employed, which encodes polyphosphate kinase catalyzing the formation of polyphosphates.

Rapid method for analyzing bacterial behavioral responses to chemical stimuli
Article Abstract:
A computer-assisted method to rapidly measure chemotaxis was described. The bacterial cells were videorecorded through a microscope, and the accumulation of bacteria at the mouth of a glass capillary tube in response to a chemical stimuli was quantified from the total number of cells per frame. The method was used to analyze the behavioral response of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to serine and was found to be more advantageous than the classical capillary assay technique.

Use of an Escherichia coli recombinant producing thermostable polyphosphate kinase as an ATP regenerator to produce fructose 1,6-diphsopahte
Article Abstract:
The use of an Escherichia coli recombinant for producing thermostable polyphosphate kinase as an ATP regenerator to produce fructose 1,6-diphsopahte is demonstrated. The recombinant can be used to produce several other important compounds too.
