Environmental gasoline-utilizing isolates and clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa are taxonomically indistinguishable by chemotaxonomic and molecular techniques
Article Abstract:
Taxonomic tests were conducted on strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from clinical sources and a gasoline-contaminated aquifer. There was a consistent difference between the ability of the aquifer strains to use gasoline provided in the gas phase as the only carbon source and the inability of the clinical strains to do so. The environmental strains had cryptic plasmids of the same size. However, the clinical strains either did not have plasmids or had plasmids of a different size.

In vivo studies disprove an obligatory role of azurin in denitrification in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and show that azu expression is under control of RpoS and ANR
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the blue copper protein azurin and cytochrome c(sub 551) to determine their role in the dissimilatory nitrate reduction of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Results have shown through an in vivo approach that cytochrome c(sub 551) rather than azurin has a physiological role in denitrification in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Moreover, a Western Blotting analysis show that azu expression is regulated by RpoS and ANR.

A direct sulfhydrylation pathway is used for methionine biosynthesis in Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Article Abstract:
Examination of methionine biosynthesis in Pseudomonas aeruginosa reveals that O-succinylhomoserine sulfhydrylase participates in the biosynthesis. O-succinylhomoserine synthase catalyzes the first step and direct sulfhydrylation helps perform the second step. Two parallel transsulfuration pathways between homocysteine and cysteine are observed in the organism and cystathionine is the intermediate in both pathways.
