Escherichia coli is unable to produce pyrroloquinoline quinone
Article Abstract:
Samples of escherichia coli were subjected to bacterial strains to determine whether mutations could be isolated in e. coli, and whether the process will result in the production of pyrroloquinoline quinone. (PQQ) Glucose dehydrogenases, (GCD) PQQ and gluconate concentration were determined in cultured medium. Findings revealed that a strain EF260, a derivative of e. coli, was unable to produce GCD unless pqq was supplied to a growth medium. Furthermore, a new process for glucose metabolism other than the GCD/PQQ pathway was synthesized in the study.

Antigen 43, the major phase-variable protein of the Eshcericha coli outer membrane, can exist as a family of proteins encoded by multiple alleles
Article Abstract:
Antigen 43 in Escherichia coli has been found to be able to exist as a family of proteins encoded by multiple alleles. The antigen is the major phase-variable protein of the outer membrane. E. coli ML308-225 has duplicate copies of agn43, both subject to reversible phase variation. The genes are 98% identical at amino acid and nucleotide levels and they express size-variable subunits. ML308-225 is not unique in possessing multiple copies of agn43.

Polymorphic outer-membrane proteins of Chlamydophila abortus are glycosylated
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the antigenic profiles of the mono-, bi- and poly-specific monoclonal antibodies against the polymorphic outer-membrane proteins (POMPs) and and POMP-related protein of Chlamydophila abortus. Results indicate that the POMPs are glycosylated.
