Interspecific pollen competition and reproductive isolation in Iris
Article Abstract:
The frequency of fruit formation, hybridization and interspecific pollen competition was studied in crossing experiments of Iris fulva and Iris hexagona. The frequency of fruit formation of crossed 600 I. fulva and 200 I. hexagona plants was 0.34 for I. fulva and 0.49 for I. hexagona with seven out of 710 seeds being hybrids. Differential fertilization by intraspecific pollen as a reproductive barrier was done by controlled crossing of 1:1 mixture of pollen from I. fulva and I. hexagona. No hybrids were produced from the 201 progeny suggesting that hybrid production is a relatively rare event.

Age-Specific Changes in Epistatic Effects on Mortality Rate in Drosophila melanogaster
Article Abstract:
Research on Drosophila melanogaster shows that epistasis for gene x genetic background is prevalent for both age-specific mortality rates, baseline mortality rates, and longevity, and suggests that it may be a key factor influencing the evolution of aging.

Age-specific fitness components in hybrid females of Drosophila pseudoobscura and D. persimilis
Article Abstract:
Age specific fitness traits were analyzed in two species of Drosophila, pseudoobscura and persimillis, to determine how hybrid fitness changes from parental taxa.
