Drawing a stripe in Drosophila imaginal disks: negative regulation of decapentaplegic and patched expression by engrailed
Article Abstract:
The dpp-lacZ reporter genes in the rear end region, where dpp activity is repressed, are expressed by mutant clones that do not exhibit invected (inv) and engrailed (en) activity. The extension of this type of expression enables the investigation of the mode of gene expression in the stripes anterior to the anterior posterior regions. The investigation reveals the genetic mechanisms which produce this type of gene expression.

A genetic analysis of the Drosophila closely linked interacting genes bulge, argos and soba
Article Abstract:
The Drosophila gene argos is characterized by a diffusible inhibitory signalling protein that possesses an EGF-like motif and conditions cell fate in eye development and wing imaginal discs. Dose titration experiments were conducted to identify the argos gene(s) receptors. Genetic analysis revealed bulge, soba and clown gene functions that interacted with argos and with each other.
