Evolution in the intraflagellar transport from coated vesicles and autogenous origin of the eukaryotic cilium
Article Abstract:
The intraflagellar transport (IFT) shares a common ancestry with all protocoatomer derivatives, including all vesicle coats and the nuclear pore complex having major implications for the evolutionary origin of cilium. The IFT reinforces the tenet that duplication and divergence of pre-existing structures, rather than symbiosis was a major theme during cilium evolution suggesting the initial step in the autogenous origin of cilium.

Small GTPases and the evolution of the eukaryotic cell
Article Abstract:
The phylogeny of small GTPases suggests that the development of phagocytosis was not the primary event during the evolution of the eukaryote endomembrane system. Cytoskeleton dynamics, vesicular trafficking and nuclear function are specific for eukaryotes and their expansion traces the evolution of core eukaryote features.

Rac1 and Rac2 GTPases in haematopoiesis
Article Abstract:
The highly homologous Rac1 and Rac2 GTPases are co-expressed in cells of haematopoietic origin and are likely to show some functional redundancy. It has been revealed that both these highly homologous GTPases are obligatory for several specialized functions inherent to stem cells, neutrophils, and B cells.
