Evolution of antennapedia-class homeobox genes
Article Abstract:
Genetic comparisons reveal that nematodes, drosophila, amphibians, mice and humans all have an antennapedia- (Antp) class homeobox genes which influence pattern formation along the anterior-posterior axis of their embryos. The Antp-class homeobox genes can be divided into two groups exhibiting similar amino acid sequences. The Antp-class genes of similar phylogenetic characteristics are often located close together within the chromosomes. Such an arrangement suggests a colinearity between phylogenetics and gene expression.

RTM1: a member of a new family of telomeric repeated genes in yeast
Article Abstract:
The new yeast gene RTM1 codes a protein containing seven transmembrane- spanning segments and exhibits overexpression by which it can resist the toxicity of molasses. Many organisms increase their resistance to toxic substances by overexpression or increase in the copy number of a gene. Resistance to copper in yeast cells is controlled by CUP1 locus. Industrial strains of yeast grown on molasses exhibit genetic diversity indicating that genomic rearrangement plays a role in evolution and environmental adaptation.

Pag-3, a Caenorhabditis elegans gene involved in touch neuron gene expression and coordinated movement
Article Abstract:
Pag-3 is a newly identified gene whose mutations result in the ectopic expression of touch neuron genes in the ALM touch neurons and the BDU neurons. Several pag-3 alleles were identified and mutations of each allele resulted in either misexpression of touch receptor genes in the BDU neurons or a reverse kinker uncoordinated phenotype. The results suggest that pag-3 influences the expression of touch cell specific genes in the BDU neurons.
