Expression of functional Porphyromonas gingivalis fimbrillin polypeptide domains on the surface of Streptococcus gordonii
Article Abstract:
Streptococcus gordonii cells expressing the Porphyromonas gingivalis virulence factor, fimbrillin polypeptide domains on their surface inhibit the binding of P. gingivalis to saliva-coated hydroxyapatite. The S. gordonii cells bind to saliva-coated hydroxyapatite, and induce a fimbrillin-specific immune response in rabbits. The recombinant fimbrillin-expressing S. gordonii strains provide an effective vaccine for a replacement therapy against P. gingivalis. These genetically engineered streptococci modulate the microenvironment of the oral cavity.

Quantitative assessment of the tetracycline resistance gene pool in cheese samples by real-time TaqMan PCR
Article Abstract:
A TaqMan real-time PCR assay developed to quantify the tetS gene pool present in retail cheese which offers a rapid, specific, sensitive, and culture-independent method for assessing antibiotic resistance genes in food samples rich in fats and proteins is presented.
