Flocking and frugivory: the effect of social groupings on resource use in the common Bush-Tanager
Article Abstract:
The variable foraging mode of the Common Bush Tanager was studied in relation to its variable flocking behavior. It was seen that the birds switched to insectivory when they joined mixed species insectivorous flocks. They were predominantly frugivorous when alone or in flocks of their own species. Switching from frugivory and insectivory and variation in flock behavior appears to be a compromise between the time constraints of insectivory and the spatial constraints of frugivory.

Diet of Northern Saw-whet Owls in southern Wisconsin
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the diets of Northern Saw-whet Owls (Aegolius acadicus). A total of 1,148 Saw-whet Owl pellets were collected and analysed in southern Wisconsin from 1986 to 1990. Average pellet size was 3.03 cm in length and 1.50 cm in width and mainly comprised prey individuals such as rodents (84.5%), deermice (67.7%) and voles (16.1%). The food-niche breadth or the count of prey mammals and insects in the owl's diet was 2.17.

Patterns of frugivory and energetic condition in Nearctic landbirds during autumn migration
Article Abstract:
Species of Nearctic landbirds exhibited behavioral plasticity during migration to compensate for energetic demands of migratory flight. Fruit became part of the diet of the migratory landbirds needed for refueling during stopover. The degree of frugivory among Neartic landbirds is extensive during migration, when energetic conditions of migratory flights influence dietary plasticity.
