Sorting of the domain-specific acrosomal matrix protein AM50 during spermiogenesis in the guinea pig
Article Abstract:
Analysis of the expression of an insoluble 50-kDa acrosomal matrix protein (AM50) in spermatogenic cells of guinea pig reveals the expression of AM50 during early acrosome development and its localization to the matrix of proacrosomal granules and the acrosomal vesicle. Examination of the generation of the domain-specific distribution of AM50 in the aerosome and the sorting pathways indicates the restricted distribution of AM50 in the mature acrosome. The molecular weight of AM50 in spermatogenic cells is higher than that in Cauda epidymal spermatozoa.

Sperm membrane potential: hyperpolarization during capacitation regulates zona pellucida-dependent acrosomal secretion
Article Abstract:
The activation state of sperm is controlled by the changes in the sperm membrane potential which results in reduced premature acrosome reactions in uncapacitated sperm and responding ability of the capacitated sperm to zona pellucida stimuli. During capacitation the signal transducing pathways caused by the development of the zona pellucida are based on hyperpolarization. The membrane potentials are measured for mouse and bovine sperm populations co-cultured with egg cells.

Surface expression of the pre-beta subunit of fertilin is regulated at a post-translational level in guinea pig spermatids
Article Abstract:
Research conducted in guinea pig spermatids shows that the arrival of the fertilin pre-beta subunit on the spermatid surface occurs several weeks before it is localized to the whole head of the sperm. During this time, its molecular weight is the same. This indicates that its arrival on the surface and movement to the whole head is regulated by a post-translational mechanism.
