Genetic analysis of the domestication syndrome in pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L., Poaceae): inheritance of the major characters
Article Abstract:
An F2 population derived from a cross between pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) and a wild relative (P. mollissimum) was studied in relation to inheritance of domestication traits. Preferential association between certain characters led to phenotypes similar to cultivated plants. Simple Mendelian inheritance governs traits that determine spikelet structure. A linkage group with quantitative trait loci for spike size and tillering habit as well as spikelet structure was identified.

Haplotype variation of cpDNA in the agamic grass complex Pennisetum section Brevivalvula (Poaceae)
Article Abstract:
The agamic grass complex Pennisetum section Brevivalvula (Poaceae) is discussed relative to haplotype variation of cpDNA. Chloroplast DNA variation was found to be geographically structured to a high degree, suggesting low seed dispersal from on sites to another. Brevivalvula is one of the five sections identified in the genus Pennisetum and contains six ruderal species that occur in the tropics. They are morphologically different.

Insights from morphological and allozyme markers
Article Abstract:
Insights derived from morphological and allozyme markers as they relate to genetic-variation/gene-flow in polyploid populations of Lotus (L. alpinus (D.C.) Schleicher/L. corniculatus L.) in the Alps are discussed. The diploid cytotype L. alpinus may be the ancestor of the alpine tetraploids, but gene flow between cytotypes seems to be limited and genetic introgression would seem to occur between the two tetraploid species.
