Genetic and phenotypic variability among Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium isolates from California dairy cattle and humans
Article Abstract:
Salmonella serovar Typhimurium isolated from a single county in California was compared to a library of isolates obtained from human and cattle clinical cases and categorized using a combination of genotypic and phenotypic methods. It was observed that the library of isolates had a high degree of variability, but antibiotic resistance and plasmid typing each defined single clusters in which human or bovine isolates predominated.

Salmonella enterica virulence genes are required for bacterial attachment to plant tissue
Article Abstract:
A screen is developed to identify transposon mutants that are defective in attachment to alfalfa sprouts in order to understand the physiology of Salmonella enterica serovar Newport on plants. Results reveal that Salmonella enterica genes important for virulence in animal systems are also required for colonization of plants, a secondary host that could serve as a vector of Salmonella enterica from animal to animal.
