Genetic characterization of accumulation of polyhydroxyalkanoate from styrene in pseudomonas putida CA-3
Article Abstract:
The genetic apparatus necessary for metabolism of styrene post-phenylacetic acid with the subsequent generation of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) monomers and the accumulation of PHAs in Pseudomonas putida CA-3 are identified and characterized. It appears that the beta-oxidation and fatty acid de novo synthesis converge in the generation of medium chain length polyhydroxyalkanoates monomers from styrene in Pseudomonas putida CA-3.

Cloning and functional characterization of the styE gene, involved in styrene transport in Pseudomonas putida CA-3
Article Abstract:
A 1.5-kb region immediately downstream of the styABCD operon involved in styrene degradation in Pseudomonas putida CA-3 is cloned. The functional characterization of this membrane-associated StyE protein and its likely involvement in the facilitated uptake of styrene in P. putida is demonstrated.

Transcriptional regulation of styrene degradation in Pseudomonas putida CA-3
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that expression of the regulatory genes styS and styR is required for the transcription of the upper pathway that mediates conversion of styrene to phenylacetic acid in Pseudomonas putida CA-3.
