Paternal Effects on the Defensive Behavior of Honeybees
Article Abstract:
Studies show that African-origin paternal effects increase defensive behavior in honeybees, in a comparison of Africanized and European bee colonies. Hypotheses explaining this finding are discussed, along with implications for honeybee breeding.

Quantitative trait loci influencing honeybee alarm pheremone levels
Article Abstract:
A new study uses quantitative trait loci mapping techniques to identify loci influencing the level of alarm pheromones present in the stinging mechanism of worker honeybees. The study suggests that the main genes which influence the amount of alarm pheromones do not directly affect the stinging behaviour in colonies of Africanized honeybees.
