Genetic rescue in interconnected populations of small and large size of the self-incompatible Ranunculus reptans
Article Abstract:
An investigation is conducted to find the effect of interpopulation outbreeding on offspring fitness, depending on population size. Findings suggest that in a self-incompatible plant such as Ranunculus reptans, interpopulation outbreeding can lead to an immediate genetic rescue effect due to increased cross-compatibility and heterosis, and that this rescue effect is increased as population size decreases.

Patterns of genetic differention between populations of the specialized herbivore Macrosiphoniella tanacetaria (Homoptera, Aphididae)
Article Abstract:
Isolation by distance and population genetic structure in the aphid Macrosiphoniella tanacetaria, a specialist herbivore of tansy is investigated. Patterns of genetic variation among populations for host-specific M.tanacetaria are at an ecologically meaningful scale, governed by colonization/extinction dynamics and genetic drift rather than by a drift-dispersal equilibrium.

Population genetics: Peak shifts in large populations
Article Abstract:
Researchers have modeled a mechanism by which large populations might move from one fitness peak to another. This model is based on stochastic events in very large populations, in which the transition from lower to higher peaks becomes a virtual certainty.
