Genetic structuring and gene flow in a hybrid zone between two chromosome races of the common shrew (Sorex araneus, Insectivora) revealed by microsatellites
Article Abstract:
Genetic structuring and gene flow in a hybrid zone between two chromosome races of the common shrew, Sorex araneus, have been studied in Sweden using six polymorphic microsatellite loci. Hybrid zones between chromosome races are interesting because they give an opportunity to study chromosome role in speciation processes. In the studied shrews the narrow hybrid zone has at its center a river, and race-specific chromosomes decrease sharply with closeness to the physical barrier. Genetic structuring in the two chromosome races and between them seemed weak, but was significant. Genetic and geographical distance did not show positive correlation. It appears that the river is not important in cutting down introgression.

Origin and evolution of twin microsatellites in the genus Oryza
Article Abstract:
An ancestral sequence of twin microsatellites of rice on separate regions of chromosomes 11 and 12 of has been found in a wild species. The microsatellites had different allele diversities in A genome species of the genus Oryza. The mutation may have been on one of the chromosomes of an ancestor of the A genome species before duplication of the chromosome segments.

Host race or species? allozyme characterization of the 'flowering dogwood fly', a member of the Rhagoletis pomonella complex
Article Abstract:
Results show significant allozymic loci frequency differences between flowering dogwood fly and the apple maggot fly with no definite pattern of differences within the individual populations. These data suggest that the flowering dogwood fly can be classified as a separate species.
