Genetics of larval urea and ammonia tolerance and cross-tolerance in Drosophila melanogaster
Article Abstract:
Experiments have been carried out to investigate whether outbred, replicate, laboratory populations of Drosophila melanogaster which have been selected for ammonia-tolerance, show similar genetic control of egg-to-adult survivorships and developmental time. Whether the observed cross-tolerance, ammonia-selected population's ability to tolerate urea and the urea-selected population's ability to tolerate ammonia show dominance and/or X-linkage was studied. It is hypothesized that two X-liked loci may exist, one controlling urea tolerance and one controlling ammonia tolerance, the other controlling urea tolerance. one autosomal locus exerting a pleiotropic control of tolerance is in the hypothesis.

Outcrossing and paternity analysis of Pinus densiflora (Japanese red pine) by microsatellite polymorphism
Article Abstract:
Highly polymorphic microsatellite markers have been used to estimate outcrossing rate and effective pollen donors for offspring produced on individual branches of one Japanese red pine (Pinus densiflora) growing in an isolated stand. Average distance of pollen migration in the study stand was 68m, the maximum being 325 m. A weakly directional bias was seen.

Genetic diversity within and among Pinus pinaster populations: comparison between AFLP and microsatellite markers
Article Abstract:
Comparison between AFLP and microsatellite markers has been carried out to look at genetic diversity within and among Pinus pinaster populations. More differentiation was seen for both markers among Corsican populations. For both markers a higher genetic diversity was seen in the Aquitaine provenance.
