Glutamate dehydrogenase activity profiles for type strains of ruminal Prevotella spp
Article Abstract:
The glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) activities for strain 23 of Prevotella ruminicola, strain GA33 of P. brevis and strain B(sub 1)4 of P. bryantii are greatest after ammonia-limited growth. Prevotella is a type of bacteria that plays a major role in the reduction of carbohydrates and protein in the stomach. They do use large oligopeptides instead single amino acids or small peptides as sources of nitrogen. GDH is an enzyme that is involved in carbon and nitrogen metabolism and could also figure in the methylglyoxal and glucose toxicity of the various Prevotella strains.

A deficiency in aspartate biosynthesis in Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis C2 causes slow milk coagulation
Article Abstract:
Lactococcus lactis KB4 is a mutant of the fast milk-coagulating Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis C2 that coagulates milk slowly. Compared to the wild-type strain, the mutant L. lactis requires aspartic acid supplementation due to a defect in the enzyme pyruvate decarboxylase. The aspartate from casein does not meet the nutritional requirement of the mutant strain.

Construction and evaluation of a novel bifunctional N-carbamylase-D-hydantoinase fusion enzyme
Article Abstract:
A novel bifunctional N-carbamylase-D-hydantoinase fusion enzyme has been synthesized and evaluated. The conversion of hydantoin derivatives to corresponding amino acids by fusion enzymes was much higher than that by the separately expressed enzymes. It was comparable to the coexpressed enzymes conversion.
