Isolation of a bacterial strain able to degrade branched nonylphenol
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the isolation and characterization of a bacterial strain able to degrade branched nonylphenol (NP) as its sole carbon and energy source. The axenic bacterial culture yielded mixed cultures capable of growing on the organic compound. Plating generated no single colonies capable, alone or in combination with other isolates, of degrading the NP in liquid culture. Results suggest that the strain begins the degradation of NP with a fission of the phenol ring and uses the para isomer of NP and not the ortho isomer.

Bacterial adhesion at synthetic surfaces
Article Abstract:
Research is conducted on the study of bacterial adsorption by surfaces with defined and controllable chemistry to investigate chemical and physiochemical factors that may affect adhesion. Results indicate clear correlation between surface chemistry and protein adsorption.
