Habitat associations of migrating and overwintering grassland birds in southern Texas
Article Abstract:
Many overwintering and transient birds are found in southern Texas during the nonbreeding season. Habitats with high levels of woody vegetation and low levels of grassland attract the widest range of bird species and the largest bird densities. There were found to be significant differences in the seasonal occurrence of grassland birds in southern Texas during the nonbreeding season, with the number of species and densities being higher in winter and spring than in autumn. A number of factors acting separately or together may be responsible for the declining populations of grassland birds.

Effects of the landscape on shorebird movements at spring migration stopovers
Article Abstract:
Small spatial scale and local movements of individual Pectoral sandpipers at three spring migration stopovers in the Great Plains of North America were analyzed to characterize individual shorebird movements. The association between bird movements and landscape was investigated while they refuel at a stopover. Landscape connectivity is important in determining the quality of migration stopover.

Importance of the supratidal habitats for maintaining overwintering shorebird populations: how Redshanks use tidal mudflats and adjacent saltworks in southern Europe
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the contribution of supratidal habitat to the energy requirements of Redshanks. This habit together with the adjacent saltworks accounted for 82% of pre-migration energy requirement and 23% of wintering requirement.
