Heterologous expression of a basic elicitin from Phytophthora cryptogea in Phytophthora infestans increases its ability to cause leaf necrosis in tobacco
Article Abstract:
A study was undertaken showing the transcription and translation of a gene encoding a basic elicitin, cryptogein, derived from the Phytophthora cryptogea in Phytophthora infestans. The genus Phytophthora is composed of a diverse group of plant pathogenic organisms that mostly produced diseases in crops such as tobacco. Results revealed that cryptogein b produced from P. infestans co-transformants increased the generation of hypersensitive-like necrosis of tobacco leaves. The transposition of a gene encoding a basic elicitin from one species to another altered the phenotypic interaction.

Distribution and expression of elicitin genes in the interspecific hybrid oomycete Phytophthora alni
Article Abstract:
The article studies the distribution and expression of elicitin genes in the interspecific hybrid oomycete Phytophthora alni, which is responsible for the alder disease in Europe. The presence of such gene sequences proves that such duplicate genes occurred even before the radiation of these species.

cDNA-AFLP analysis of differential gene expression in the prokaryotic plant pathogen Erwinia carotovora
Article Abstract:
Results describe use of the cDNA-amplified fragment length polymorphism (cDNA-AFLP) technique for studying prokaryotic differential gene expression employing Erwinia cDNA. Northern analysis confirms that the differentially amplified cDNA fragments originated from differentially expressed genes.
