Identification by quantitative carrier test of surrogate spore-forming bacteria to assess sporicidal chemicals for use against Bacillus anthracis
Article Abstract:
Several potential bacterial surrogates are evaluated for the spores of Bacillus anthracis in order to obtain safer and more-effective liquid chemical sporicides to deal with the threat of anthrax. The use of safe and easy-to-handle surrogates have helped in developing safer and effective sporicides and also in analyzing the field effectiveness of existing and newer formulations in the decontamination of objects and surfaces suspected of Bacillus anthracis contamination.

Visible-light-induced bactericidal activity of a nitrogen-doped titanium photocatalyst against human pathogens
Article Abstract:
Nitrogen-doped Ti[O.sub.2] substrates have superior visible-light-induced bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli compared to pure Ti[O.sub.2] and carbon-doped Ti[O.sub.2] substrates. Data indicate that protein- and light-absorbing containments partially reduce the bacterial activity of nitrogen-doped Ti[O.sub.2] substrates due to their light-shielding effects.

Interstrain inhibition in the sweet potato pathogen Streptomyces ipomoeae: purification and characterization of a highly specific bacteriocin and cloning of its structural gene
Article Abstract:
The purified group III inhibitory substance from Streptomyces ipomoeae is a 10-kilodalton cationic protein and bacteriolytic for group I and II of S. ipomoeae. The substance behaves like a specific bacteriocin and is designaed ipomicin.
