In vivo fluxes in the ammonium-assimilatory pathways in Corynebacterium glutamicum studied by 15N nuclear magnetic resonance
Article Abstract:
The accumulation of ammonium by Corynebacterium glutamicum wild type strain ATCC 13032 and its glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) mutant has been investigated by 15N nuclear magnetic resonance. The study seeks to find out which pathways C. glutamicum utilizes in assimilating ammonium and the primary nitrogen fluxes in both strains in vivo. Results indicated that transmembrane equilibration of 100 mM (15N) ammonium was finished in less than 2 min. The wild type assimilated 28% of the NH4+ via the GS reaction in glutamine and 72% by the reversible GDH reaction via glutamate.

Degradation of chloronitrobenzenes by a coculture of Pseudomonas putida and a Rhodococcus sp
Article Abstract:
The degradation by a coculture of Pseudomonas putida HS12 and Rhodococcus sp. strain HS51 of 3- and 4-chloronitrobenzenes (CNBs) has been studied. CNBs are used as intermediates in the manufacture of various chlorinated aromatic compounds. The Pseudomonas strain was isolated by analogue enrichment culture using nitrobenzene (NB) as the substrate. The strain possesses a partial reductive pathway for the degradation of NB. Results indicate that the coculture can mineralize 3- and 4-CNBs in the presence of a carbon source.
