Induction mechanism of a single gene molecule: stochastic or deterministic?
Article Abstract:
Concentration changes of activated regulatory factors cause graded gene induction. Beta-galactosidase activity assay was performed to quantify single gene expression, and determine whether graded regulation is due to the response of an individual gene molecule or due to the averaged response of the cell population. Results show that under certain conditions eukaryotic gene induction is stochastic. The stochastic view complicates current intracellular gene networks and morphogenesis concepts therefore further research would be needed to elicit the essential features of gene induction.

What determines the instability of c-myc proto-oncogene mRNA?
Article Abstract:
Normal cell growth and differentiation processes require the regulation of c-myc proto-oncogene activity, otherwise, carcinogenesis is initiated. The latter occurs through the stabilization of labile c-myc messenger ribonucleic acids (mRNA) in the presence of the specific coding sequences, adenosine and uracil-rich regions in the 3' untranslated regions, exon 1 and a minimum tail length sequence. These destabilizing factors act by endonucleolytically cleaving mRNA followed by its rapid decay.

Transgenic animal studies on the evolution of genetic regulatory circuitries
Article Abstract:
A study of the results of transgenic animal experiments reveals the essential role of promoter/enhancer elements present in the host species for the expression of transgenes in tissues which do not express the endogenous homolog. The remarkable conservation of some of these promoter/enhancer elements in distantly related organisms may indicate their important role in adaptive evolution. Therefore, their identification can lead to a greater understanding of evolutionary processes.
