Influence of water temperature and salinity on Vibrio vulnificus in Northern Gulf and Atlantic Coast oysters (Crassostrea virginica)
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the relationship between the temperature and salinity of water and the density of Vibrio vulnificus. Another objective of the study was to investigate the seasonal distribution and abundance of V vulnificus in the Northern Gulf and Atlantic Coast oysters. Results indicate that the hazard of V vulnificus infection is not limited to environmental conditions unusual to Gulf Coast estuaries and to brief periods of unusual abundance in Gulf Coast oysters.

Variability of total and pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus densities in northern Gulf of Mexico water and oysters
Article Abstract:
The studies of intraseasonal variations of densities of total and pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus organism in oysters and overlying waters in the northern Gulf of Mexico are reported. Greater sample-to-sample variability is observed in pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus densities than in total Vibrio parahaemolyticus.

Evaluation of two direct plating methods using nonradioactive probes for enumeration of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in oysters
Article Abstract:
The Direct-VPAP and Direct-VPDig plating methods were compared to the MPN-VPAP procedure in a study to determine the amount of Vibrio parahaemolytics in oysters. The two direct plating methods were faster and less labor-intensive.
