Inhibition of plant-pathogenic bacteria by short synthetic cecropin A-melittin hybrid peptides
Article Abstract:
The activity of Pep3 and 22 new analogues against the phytopathogenic bacteria Erwinia amylovora, Pseudomonas syringae and Xanthomonas vesicatoria are reported, where the analogues are designed based on the alpha-helical wheel diagram of Pep3 and synthesized by the solid-phase method. Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy is used to determine the secondary structure of the peptides in order to obtain new peptides with higher bactericidal activity and lower cytotoxic effects and sensitivity to protease degradation than Pep3.

Assessment of the environmental fate of the biological control agent of fire blight, Pseudomonas fluorescents EPS62e, on apple by culture and real-time PCR methods
Article Abstract:
The colonization of apple blossoms and leaves by Pseudomonas fluorescence EPS62e was monitored in greenhouse and field trials using cultivable cell counting and real-time PCR. The real-time PCR provided a specific quantitative method for the detection of the strain EPS62e that was under optimal conditions during the colonization of flowers but it was stressed and poorly survived on leaves.

Environmental monitoring of Mycobacterium bovis in badger feces and badger sett soil by real-time PCR, as confirmed by immunofluorescence, immunocapture, and cultivation
Article Abstract:
Real-time PCR is used for detecting and quantifying Mycobacterium bovis cells in naturally infected soil and badger feces. Immunomagnetic capture, immunofluorescence and selective culture are used for monitoring Mycobacterium bovis in the environment and for describing transmission routes between wildlife and cattle.
