Purification and characterization of a novel antibacterial protein from the marine bacterium D2
Article Abstract:
Marine bacterium D2 produces a protein, 190-kDa, which has anti-bacterial properties. The N-terminal sequence analysis shows that this protein has no resemblance to other known proteins. The protein release occurs during the stationary phase and has at least two subunits of 60 and 80 kDa that are linked via non-covalent bonds. The increased resistance of D2 towards the protein as the stationary phase progresses explains the survival of the bacteria in the presence of an autoinhibitory factor.

Catalyzed reporter deposition-fluorescence in situ hybridization allows for enrichment-independent detection of micro-colony forming soil bacteria
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted in which catalyzed reporter deposition (CARD) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was used as an alternative method to rRNA enhancement. Result shows that the method proposed was found to be superior to conventional FISH for the detection of microcolonies that are cultivated by using the soil substrate membrane system.
