Interaction between Magellanic Penguins and shrimp fisheries in Patagonia, Argentina
Article Abstract:
There could be significant interaction between penguins and shrimp fisheries, according to research into the impact of a shrimp fishery on Magellanic Penguins in Patagonia, Argentina. It was found that the fishery incidentally killed large numbers of penguins in its nets. There is no direct evidence of competition, but indirect effects of the fishery on penguins appear to be substantial. There is a need to improve fishing gear to cut the indirect effect of the fish by-catch on penguins.

The effect of carrying devices on breeding Royal Penguins
Article Abstract:
A study on the effect of Time Depth Recorders (TDR) and VHF transmitters on breeding Royal Penguins was conducted to examine foraging behavior during the stages of the breeding season. Devices were attached to the penguins and behavior were compared to control birds with no devices. Results reveal that TDRs showed significant effects on the penguins behavior as compared to transmitters which had no effect on the birds at all.
