Interaction of flesh color genes in watermelon
Article Abstract:
Experiments wherein watermelon flesh color is controlled by several genes to produce red, orange, canary yellow, salmon yellow or white were conducted to study the interaction of three independently reported gene loci having two or three alleles. Segregation of flesh color in the progeny of the five families supported previous reports of a multiple allelic series at the y locus where Y (red) was dominant to y(orange) and y(salmon yellow). Epistasis was found to be involved in the genes for major flesh colors in watermelon.

Inheritance and linkage analyses of menadione reductase, phosphoglucoisomerase, and triosephosphate isomerase in safflower
Article Abstract:
An investigation of the inheritance of a number of morphological and physiological markers in safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) showed no segregation distortion in any of the five F2 populations for the single-gene segregation at the menadione reductase, phosphoglucoisomerase and triosephosphate isomerase. The mode of inheritance of the three enzyme systems was also tested using a X2 goodness-of-fit test to the 1:2:1 segregation ratio expected for codominantly expressed alleles at a single locus. ss
