Isolation and identification of Rickettsia massiliae from Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks collected in Arizona
Article Abstract:
Twenty Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks collected in eastern Arizona were tested by PCR assay to ascertain their infection rate with spotted fever group rickettsiae. The findings reveal that the noncytotoxic AZT80 strain of Rickettsia massiliae is present in R. sanguineus ticks in the same geographic area where pathogenic R. rickettsii has been identified as a cause of fatal Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Addition of cellulolytic clostridia to the bovine rumen and pig intestinal tract
Article Abstract:
Experimental studies to identify conditions to introduce intestinal cellulolytic bacteria into bovine rumen and pig large intestine reveal that a competition should be overcome for efficient introduction of these organisms into an intestinal ecosystem. In bovine rumen Clostridium longisporum exists as a transient organism, while C. herbivorans is part of the pig large intestine.

Real-time PCR quantitation of Clostridia in feces of autistic children
Article Abstract:
The suitability of a real-time PCR (5' nuclease PCR assay) to detect the quantitative C-bioteae and some clostridium groups in fecal specimens of autistic and control children is discussed. The assay is a reliable and rapid method, and has great potential for quantitation of other bacteria in the intestinal tract.
