Katanin, a microtubule-severing protein, is a novel AAA ATPase that targets to the centrosome using a WD40-containing subunit
Article Abstract:
The mechanism and biological functions of the microtubule-severing protein katanin in relation to centrosomes were investigated. cDNA clones were isolated for the p60 and p80 subunits from cDNA derived from sea urchin to examine the functional domains of katanin. Results show that p60 serves the enzymatic function of katanin while p80 functions as a centrosome-targeting katanin subunit. These findings suggest that katanin is a novel AAA adenosine triphosphatase that targets to the centrosome using the WD40-containing p80 subunit.

A new ticket for entry into budding vesicles--ubiquitin
Article Abstract:
This review examines the role of ubiquitin polypeptide as a regulated sorting signal of the endosomal and biosynthetic pathways. Recent research findings about noncanonical functions of ubiquitin controlling intracellular protein trafficking are discussed.
