Pheromone response in trehalose-6-phosphate synthase yeast mutants
Article Abstract:
The effects of pheromone treatment on phototrophic trains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae with trehalose-6-phosphate synthase gene 1 (tps1) and tps2 mutations were analyzed to determine the molecular basis of Tsp1 function. The rate of cellular desensitization was enhanced by the administration of mating pheromone alpha factor on tsp1-null yeast mutants. The desensitization of yeast mutants was caused by impaired glucose utilization due to the absence of tps1.

Yeast genome and the inositol trisphosphate kinase controversy
Article Abstract:
BLAST and FASTA search probes were used on the protein sequence of InsP3 3-kinase to find an open reading frame that would indicate the presence of InsP3 3-kinase domain in the translated genome of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Results reveal that the low scoring sequences has no significant phylogenic relationship to InsP3 3-kinase. Furthermore, the InsP3 3-kinase animal analog has no cross-relativity with InsP3 3-kinase antibodies in the yeast extract.
