Large scale molecular analysis of traditional European maize populations: relationships with morphological variation
Article Abstract:
A study has been carried out to evaluate the potential of a given approach for arriving at a better understanding of European maize diversity. To use RFLPs for the analysis of large samples of populations, a DNA polled sampling strategy was developed. It was efficient for the analysis of maize populations, providing a convenient tool for the molecular analysis of large collections of populations. A representative sample of 130 European traditional maize populations was analyzed for morphological and molecular variation.

Evolution of genetic variability in a population of the edible snail, Helix aspersa Muller, undergoing domestication and short-term selection
Article Abstract:
Evolution of genetic variability has been studied in six successive generation of a population originating from wild Helix aspersa. Short-term selection and domestication were of interest. In the first three no artificial selection was used, but in the next three a control line selected for greater adult weight was reared. A pedigree analysis was carried out. Results, the drop in the effective number of ancestors, were consistent with the theory of selection and the Bulmer effect.
