LlaFI, a type III restriction and modification system in Lactococcus lactis
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the characterization and molecular cloning of the restriction and modification (R/M) system, LlaFI, in Lactococcus lactis, encoded by pND801 to show that it is a type III R/M system. Results based on nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences and the homologies with the other type III mod genes and amino acid sequences indicate that the R/M system encoded by pND805 is a type IIII R/M system.

A potential food-grade cloning vector for Streptococcus thermophilus that uses cadmium resistance as the selectable marker
Article Abstract:
The construction of a 5.0-kilobase food-grade cloning vector for Streptococcus thermophilus is described. The vector construct carries DNAs from two different groups of food-approved bacteria incorporating a replicon from S. thermophilus and the cadmium resistance selectable marker from Lactococcus. Data show that the vector containing S. thermophilus can replicate in two industrial strains of the species.

Survival response and rearrangement of plasmid DNA of Lactococcus lactis during long-term starvation
Article Abstract:
Lactococcus lactis can become resistant to stress during starvation and also changes shape and rearranges its plasmids to form new plasmids. The resulting isolates have a survival advantage over the wild type when grown in energy-limited media.
