Long-term persistence of song dialects in the Mountain White-crowned sparrow
Article Abstract:
The qualitative and quantitative structural characteristics of local song dialects of Mountain White-crowned sparrows (Zonotrichia leucophrys oriantha) were examined. The songs were recorded at different geographic locations in the central Sierra Nevada Mountains of California from 1970 to 1996. The results showed that the basic song structure remained highly consistent over a 26-yr period. However, some components of the song have changed more than the others, and the song types and component syllables changed more in smaller populations.

Feeding behavior and assimilation efficiency of the rufous-tailed plantcutter: a small avian herbivore
Article Abstract:
There is no information about the natural history and functional ecology of the Rufous-tailed Plantcutter, a small species of avian herbivore found in central Chile. A new study investigates the food habits and dietary preferences of the Rufous-tailed Plantcutter and examines the effect of food quality on digestive efficiency. Details of the study are presented.

The role of gastrolites on feeding behavior and digestive efficiency in the Rufous-collared Sparrow
Article Abstract:
Research concerning the ingestion of grit by the Chilean Rufous-collared Sparrow is presented. The consumption of grit appears to be linked to raising energy acquisition during times of hardship, such as winter.
