Longitudinal emergence and distribution of Escherichia coli O157 genotypes in a beef feedlot
Article Abstract:
The prevalence and longitudinal distribution of Escherichia coli O157 in feedlot cattle and the feedlot environment are described. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) types identified in sampling of the feedlot prior to calf entry are different from the majority of types identified following calf entry and the data have supported that the incoming cattle introduced a new strain that became the predominant strain in the feedlot.

Factors associated with the presence of coliforms in the feed and water of feedlot cattle
Article Abstract:
A study to investigate coliform counts in feedlot cattle water and feed rations and their association with management, climate, fecal material and water Escherichia coli O157, using a cross-sectional study design was performed. The study revealed that the coliform counts in the feed and water were not associated with prevalence of Escherichia coli O157 in cattle feces or waters.
