Lysine-oriented charges trigger the membrane binding and activity of nukacin ISK-1
Article Abstract:
The antibacterial activities and membrane binding of nukacin ISK-1 and its fragments and mutants were evaluated to delineate the determinants governing structure-functions relationships. The tail region [nukacin.sub.(1-7).] and ring region [nukacin.sub.(7-27)] were shown to have no antibacterial activity and also had no synergistic effect on each other or even on nukacin ISK-1.

Lactococcin Q, a novel two-peptide bacteriocin produced by Lactococcus lactis QU 4
Article Abstract:
The purification, structural analysis, and characterization of a novel two-peptide bacteriocin, called lactococcin Q, produced by Lactococcus lactis QU 4 is described. The MIC of Qalpha plus Gbeta was higher than that of Qalpha plus Qbeta, which shows that the difference in beta peptides is vital for the intensity of antibacterial activity.

Outbreak of an acute aflatoxicosis in Kenya in 2004: identification of the casual agent
Article Abstract:
The primary causal agents of the 2004 contamination events in Kenya are determined by considering both fungal and aflatoxin-producing potential and frequency of occurrence in the contaminated maize crop. The S strain of Aspergillus flavus with aflatoxicoses is associated with the 2004 outbreak of acute aflatoxicosis.
