Male biased sex ratio in the Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata, an example of Y-chromosome meiotic drive
Article Abstract:
The pattern of inheritance of male producer (MP) is described to find out whether its effect on sex ratio is associated with postzygotic mortality. A theory is proposed that links it to variation in X-chromosome sensitivity to MP, arising by random suppression of the genetic basis of sensitivity during the six mitotic divisions in the origin of the cyst from its stem cell before meiosis.

The infancy of duplicate genes
Article Abstract:
Gene duplication provides new genetic materials that can be modified by mutation, random drift and natural selection to form mew genes with altered functions. To reduce the influence of gene conversion between duplicate copies, it is suggested that the duplicates must be physically separated in chromosomes by at least twenty genes.

When the going gets tough, beneficial mutations get going
Article Abstract:
Silander and others applied techniques to study the fitness effects of mutations in Drosophila. They propagated virus populations in the laboratory under conditions that allow mutations to accumulate.
