Trait association of a genetic marker near the IGF-1 gene in egg-laying chickens
Article Abstract:
A genetic marker was identified in the IGF-1 gene in a strain of White Leghorn chickens. It is shown to be linked to differences in egg weight and eggshell thickness. It also changes the coordination between food intake, body weight, laying rates and egg weight.

A genetic marker in the growth hormone receptor gene associated with body weight in chickens
Article Abstract:
A genomic clone straddling 16 kb of the GH receptor gene was mapped and employed as a probe for determining restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) in chickens. Several strains of meat-type and egg laying chickens were observed to segregate for an HindIII RFLP found in the intro preceding exon 4. The polymorphic HindIII site overlapped with a poly(A) signal. Findings suggested the presence of a genetic variant of the GH receptor gene which affects growth and abdominal fat deposition.

Markers within the regulatory region of the growth hormone receptor gene and their association with milk-related traits in Holsteins
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze sequence variations in the regulatory area of the bovine growth hormone receptor gene. A polymerase chain reaction-based technique was developed to detect AluI, AccI, and StuI restrict fragment length polymorphisms in the flanking area of the bovine growth hormone receptor gene. Semen samples were then randomly obtained from Holstein bulls. The estimated breeding values were based on a mixed framework process with an animal model on the association between animals and the bias of selection.
