Mating system of yellow starthistle (Centaurea solstitialis), a successful colonizer in North America
Article Abstract:
The mating system of yellow starthistle (Centaurea solstitialis), a successful North American colonizer, has been studied as it relates to that colonization with quantitative analysis of mating system parameters using progeny arrays assayed for nine allozyme markers. Mating system variation in colonizing, self-incompatible species is of value for understanding evolution of self-incompatibility systems.

The effect of ecological factors on the mating system of a South American shrub species (Helicteres brevispira)
Article Abstract:
The mating system of a Brazilian shrub species, Helicteres brevispira, has been studied relative to ecological factors. Simultaneous effects of pollinator movements, plant density, and number of flowers per plant were investigated. Results show outcrossing rate to be a dynamic parameter. The degree of variation depends on various factors in the environments.

Evolutionary responses to environmental stress by the pitcher-plant mosquito, Wyeomyia smithii
Article Abstract:
Evolutionary responses to environmental stress reveals that hybridization has beneficial effect on fitness in the intial period of acute stress in Wyeomyia smithii population. Results also indicate that outcrossing of differentiated populations is necessary for introducing a long term adaptation in chronic stressful environments.
