Measurements of the distribution of adenylate concentrations and adenylate energy charge across Pseudomonas aeroginosa biofilms
Article Abstract:
A method was developed to measure the adenine nucleotides and adenylate energy charge in a biofilm of Pseudomonas aeroginosa. This entails freezing and sectioning biofilm in a constant-depth film fermentor. Extraction and assaying of the adenylates form the second phase. Results showed that all adenylates increased in concentration toward the surface through time. The dominant adenylate was adenosine monophosphate with relatively higher concentrations at the bottom. Increases of 0.2 units in the energy charge were recorded from the bottom to the surface of the biofilm.

Cloning and characterization of polyphosphate kinase and exopolyphosphatase genes from Pseudomonas aeruginosa 8830
Article Abstract:
The genes encoding polyphosphate kinase (PPK) and exopolyphosphatase (PPX) were isolated from Pseudomonas aeruginosa 8830 to study polyphosphate metabolism and clarify the function of polyphosphate in the microorganism. In contrast to Escherichia coli, the ppk and ppx genes in P aeruginosa are transcribed divergently and no coregulation between their expression was shown by a study of the two promoters. A residual low PPK activity was detected in the mutant, representing a separate mechanism of polyP synthesis.
